Zimbabwe Cheetah Shayne Makombe was born in Harare.

Going by the nickname “Shayno”, he attended Churchill Boys High School where he captained the first XV and went on to represent the school in the Zimbabwe U18 7s team.

Whilst pursuing a degree in psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, Shayne won the Varsity Cup Best Backline Player title in 2014.

Shayne has had the opportunity to play with Springboks Curwin Bosch, Sbu Nkosi and was coached by former New Zealand coach, John Mitchell.

In 2017, Makombe graduated with a psychology degree and later moved to France for rugby.

Shayne was selected as the 2018 Male Player of the Year at the Rome Sevens tournament in Italy.
