GERALD MPINDIWA

“I am Ndebele by birth and of the Moyo origin. I come from a family of three , all boys with me being the eldest son alongside my twin brother. I was born in Bulawayo, and later grew up in the capital, Harare. I started watching rugby when I was twelve years of age, back in the day when the likes of Bryan Habana and Johnny Wilkinson were the players to watch. I decided to join the sport when I got my first major hit during a game of semi contact with my peers. At that time I had no idea on how to play the game so the impact was so strong I had to stay home for a week without going to school. When I finished ‘O’ level In 2016. A friend of mine invited me to join the academy he was playing for which at that time was Antelopes Rugby Academy. With this institute I felt the difference between schoolboy rugby and club rugby . After the 2017/18 season finished I went on to join Old Johanians which is now called Alex Rugby Club. Due to the intensity of the game and my hunger for more competition, I left the club and joined the prestigious and undisputed Harare Sports Club at the end of the 2018 Men’s league. I was lucky enough to be part of the Exide 7s champions squad December 2018. In a few years time , I see myself playing for the Hurricanes in New Zealand. In the academic side I want to be a Corporate Lawyer and would want to study in Law, and International Trade and Economics. I am new to the rugby department and would be looking forward to scooping a couple of rugby accolades. I am currently playing for the Under 21 side at Harare Sports Club.”
